Priority

Validate before changing

Turn variant choice into a measurable decision.

Observed
The product page asks shoppers to choose from a large variant set.
Hypothesis
Choice friction may be contributing to exits before add-to-cart.
Measure next
Variant interactions, add-to-cart rate, exits, and mobile replay evidence.

The audit

A decision document your team can use.

Public storefront reconnaissance tells us where to look. Merchant field data, analytics, and replay evidence tell us whether a change deserves the work.

Each finding carries an evidence class, confidence, business reason, verification step, implementation effort, and an owner. If the evidence says leave something alone, it goes on the do-not-touch list.

What gets checked

Six connected surfaces.

01

Field performance

LCP, INP, CLS, device splits, route-level outliers, and third-party interaction cost.

02

Human + AI findability

Navigation, collections, on-site search, product information, policies, and how clearly search engines and AI shopping tools can understand the store.

03

Product decisions

Offer clarity, variant selection, media, trust, subscriptions, bundles, and mobile add-to-cart.

04

Cart and promotion logic

Discount conflicts, gift rules, shipping thresholds, subscription states, and cart persistence.

05

Measurement fidelity

Event coverage, channel and device segmentation, funnel breaks, replay evidence, and data gaps.

06

Checkout handoffs

Pre-checkout friction and handoffs that can be observed without pretending checkout control.

What arrives

Useful on day one.

01

Evidence map

Every item is marked observed, measured, hypothesis, or requires merchant data.

02

Ranked action plan

Fix, defer, validate, and do-not-touch decisions with effort, owner, and measurement path.

03

Baseline brief

The metrics and segments needed to judge the work after implementation.

04

Recorded readout

A 30-minute working session your internal team or agency can use.

Delivery target: 72 hours after the required access and baseline data are complete. Scope is confirmed before the clock starts.

A quick store check

Start with what you know.

Treat this as a working conversation. Choose “Partly” or “Not sure yet” whenever the answer is not clear. That tells us what may be worth checking together.

02 · Product choiceCan a new shopper quickly understand what to buy and choose the right product, size, shade, or option?
03 · Human + AI findabilityCan shoppers, search engines, and AI shopping tools clearly understand what you sell and find the right product?
04 · Offers and cartAre discounts, bundles, subscriptions, gifts, and shipping thresholds clear from the product page through the cart?
05 · Clear measurementCan your team see where shoppers hesitate or leave, separated by device and traffic source?
06 · Next-step ownershipWhen the team spots a storefront issue, is there a clear owner, next step, and way to tell whether the change helped?

Research baseline

Benchmarks frame the question. Your data sets the priority.

+100 ms

Small delays can matter.

Shopify's 2026 store analysis associated each additional 100 ms of LCP with about 3.5% lower conversion. Use it as context, then verify performance in your own field data.

AI + search

Clear product data supports discovery.

Shopify recommends accurate, detailed product information so AI platforms and shopping sites can understand and match products to customer searches.

Checkout deserves direct evidence.

Baymard reports this average across 50 ecommerce cart-abandonment studies. Use it to frame the question; your device, channel, and margin data set the priority.

A good fit

You have real traffic and someone who can act.

  • Your Shopify store has enough volume for device and funnel patterns to matter.
  • An internal team or agency can implement a ranked set of changes.
  • You want evidence and tradeoffs, not a cosmetic teardown.
  • You are comfortable approving a Shopify collaborator request for only the store areas and data the audit needs.

A different starting point

Some needs call for a different engagement.

  • The store is pre-launch or traffic is too light to separate a pattern from noise.
  • The immediate need is a full redesign, accessibility certification, or security assessment.
  • The team needs implementation capacity before a roadmap will be useful.
  • The decision depends on a guaranteed revenue outcome.

Shopify Partner access

You stay in control.

SGM Studios is a Shopify Partner. For an existing store, SGM normally sends a collaborator request through Shopify's Dev Dashboard. You choose which store areas SGM can access, and you never share your password.

Existing store

Collaborator access

Shopify's recommended route for client work. The merchant approves the request and controls the permitted areas.

New build or testing

A separate store

A client transfer store handles a new build and handoff. A dev store supports app or theme testing. Existing-store audits use the collaborator route.

Specific API need

Scoped app access

A scoped app is reserved for an agreed API need that collaborator access or an approved export cannot provide.

Review Shopify's scope model

The written scope lists each requested permission before work begins.

Check suitability

Simple by design

Three decisions.

  1. 01

    Confirm fit

Send the store URL, traffic band, priority, and timing. No account access is needed for this step.

  2. 02

    Confirm scope and deposit

SGM sends the written scope and Square contract first. After both sides accept, a client-specific Square invoice requests the CAD equivalent of the US$500 deposit. The deposit is credited to the audit total.

  3. 03

    Approve the agreed access

For an existing store, this normally means a Shopify collaborator request with only the permissions needed for the scope. The 72-hour delivery target begins after access and baseline data are complete.

Check fit

Start with a focused conversation.

Book a short fit call or send the details by email. If the audit fits, SGM follows with the written scope, Square contract, available start window, and a client-specific Square invoice. Nothing is charged when you book.

Audit reference priceUS$1,500
Credited depositUS$500

Square invoices are issued in CAD. The written scope shows the conversion rate, fixed CAD total, deposit, balance, and applicable taxes before payment.

20-minute fit call

Choose a time that works.

No store access is needed. We will talk through the decision you are trying to make and whether the audit is the right next step.

Plain answers

Before you ask.

What if the audit finds nothing urgent?

You still receive the evidence map, what is already sound, the do-not-touch list, and the next measurement gaps. Avoiding low-value work is a useful outcome.

How do you access an existing Shopify store?

The fit check needs no account access. If the audit proceeds, SGM normally uses a Shopify Partner collaborator request with only the store permissions approved for the scope. Client transfer and dev stores serve separate build or testing jobs.

Can our agency implement the plan?

Yes. The roadmap is designed to hand off. A separate SGM fix sprint is optional and quoted only after the evidence is clear.

What does SGM guarantee?

SGM guarantees the defined audit scope, evidence classification, and delivery. Revenue outcomes also depend on traffic, offer, seasonality, operations, and implementation quality.

How do the USD price and CAD Square invoice work?

The reference price is US$1,500 and the credited deposit is US$500. Square settles this Canadian account in CAD, so the written scope fixes the CAD total and deposit using the Bank of Canada daily average USD/CAD rate from the preceding business day. The same rate applies to both, and the balance is not recalculated later.

What are the refund, cancellation, and tax terms?

The written scope and client-specific Square invoice state the deposit, balance, refund, cancellation, rescheduling, and applicable tax terms before you pay. If SGM declines the fit, no deposit is requested.
