Shopify store audits & optimization

Find where the buying path needs evidence—and what to review first.

SGM Studios reviews your store’s speed, navigation, product pages, cart rules, and authorized analytics. You receive a ranked action plan your team can use, without being pushed into a redesign.

Example audit finding01 / sample

Variant choices need evidence, not a guess.

Observed
The product page asks shoppers to choose from a large set of variants.
Possible explanation
The number of choices may be making it harder to add a product to the cart.
What to measure
Variant use, add-to-cart rate, exits, and mobile interaction evidence.

Why an audit

Replace the loudest opinion with the clearest next step.

The audit is for teams that know something could be better but do not want to spend money changing the wrong thing.

01

Getting visitors but not enough completed orders?

We help you find where checkout friction may be getting in the way — before you spend more to bring in new traffic.

02

Every app or agency has a different answer.

Put observations, possible explanations, and actual measurements in separate boxes.

03

The team has a long list and no order.

Leave with a short plan showing what to fix, test, delay, or leave alone.

What you receive

A decision-ready plan, not a longer to-do list.

Every recommendation explains what was seen, why it matters, what still needs proof, who should own the next step, and how to tell whether the change helped.

01
Evidence map

Each item is labelled as observed, measured, a possible explanation, or something that still needs your data.

02
Ranked action plan

A clear order for what to fix, test, delay, or leave alone, with estimated effort and an owner.

03
Starting measurements

The numbers and customer groups to record before changes are made, so later results can be judged fairly.

04
Recorded walkthrough

A 30-minute working session your internal team or current agency can use.

What gets reviewed

Six parts of the shopping experience.

01

Real-customer page speed

Core Web Vitals (how quickly pages load, respond, and stop moving), by device and key page type.

02

Navigation, search & filtering

Menus, collections, search results, filters, no-result pages, and how products are organized.

03

Product-page choices

Offer clarity, images, variants, trust information, bundles, subscriptions, and mobile add-to-cart.

04

Cart, discounts & offers

Discount conflicts, gifts, shipping thresholds, subscription states, and whether the cart remembers choices.

05

Analytics you can trust

Whether important actions are recorded, where the funnel breaks, and which questions still lack data.

06

The path into checkout

Friction that can be observed before checkout, without claiming control over parts of Shopify that are outside the scope.

What “minimum access” meansSGM requests only what the agreed scope needs: the public store, relevant theme context, read-only analytics or approved exports, available performance data, recent change notes, and one person who can answer questions. No account access is needed for the first fit check.

A real decision format

See the difference between a fact and a theory.

“Possible explanation” means a reasonable idea to test—not a claim that the store is broken. Your analytics and approved interaction data decide whether a change moves forward.

Product pageDecision: measure first

Do not simplify variants until the behaviour is visible.

Observed
Many options appear before the shopper can add the item to the cart.
Possible explanation
Some mobile shoppers may stop because the choice feels difficult.
What to measure
Which options are used, where exits occur, and what happens immediately before add-to-cart.
Do not change yetMeasure, then decide

Free checkout-risk preview

Self-reported preview: “Yes” can mean a more complex cart path deserves attention; it does not mean something is broken. “Not sure” is a useful answer.

01 · DiscountsDo you use discount codes, automatic discounts, or sale pricing that changes what appears in the cart?

02 · Bundles & special offersDo you sell bundles, subscriptions, gifts with purchase, or buy-one-get-one offers?

03 · Cart apps & added store codeDo any cart apps or added store code (small custom changes to the store) change prices, add items, show extra offers, or display offer messages?

04 · Shipping or order thresholdDo you offer free shipping or another reward when the cart reaches a minimum amount?

05 · Mixed cartsCan one order mix regular items with discounted, bundled, subscription, gift, or preorder items?

06 · Recent cart behaviourHas someone on your team tried your main cart paths on both a phone and a computer in the last 90 days?

What your answers tell us

Answer the six questions to select a representative cart state.

What this could affect

The completed card will identify cart totals, messages, offer rules, or the path into checkout that could deserve review.

What the paid audit checks

The paid audit compares expected rules with observed behaviour and authorized merchant information.

Short evidence trail

  • Scenario and expected rule
  • Device, steps, and timestamp
  • Observed state versus possible explanation
  • Priority, owner, and retest

Prioritized next step

Complete the preview. SGM will show which single scenario the paid audit would document first.

Outcome note: SGM Studios’ audit findings, recommendations, and any illustrative scenarios are informed by available evidence and the information reviewed. They are not guarantees or projections of future revenue, profit, conversion rate, sales, or other business results. Actual outcomes depend on many factors outside SGM Studios’ control, including implementation decisions, pricing, products, traffic quality, customer behavior, platform changes, competition, and market conditions.

How it works

Three clear decisions before work begins.

  1. 01

    Tell SGM about the store

Share the store URL, approximate traffic, the decision you need to make, and timing. No account access is needed.

    Prepare request
  2. 02

    Confirm fit, scope & price

SGM replies with a written scope, exact inclusions and exclusions, access list, timing, payment terms, and an available start window.

    Client guide
  3. 03

    Provide only the agreed access

After the deposit and minimum required access are complete, SGM confirms the start time and the 72-hour target begins.

Ongoing work

Optimization Partnership

Custom scope

Ongoing measurement, testing, and improvement for stores with enough traffic and a team that can act.

Check suitability

Need theme work, analytics help, maintenance, audio production, plugin development, or workflow automation? See the complete service list. Availability and final scope are always confirmed in writing.

A good fit

Your store has real traffic and someone who can act.

  • You want evidence and trade-offs, not a cosmetic teardown.
  • Your team or agency can implement a ranked set of changes.
  • You can share the minimum data needed for the agreed scope.
  • You are comfortable measuring before making a large change.

Probably not a fit

You need a guarantee or a different kind of service.

  • You need a guaranteed revenue lift or search ranking.
  • The store has too little traffic to separate a pattern from noise.
  • You need a full redesign, accessibility certification, or formal security assessment.
  • No one is available to implement or test the recommendations.

Plain answers

What to expect before you start.

What is the free checkout-risk preview—and what is it not?

It is a six-question, self-reported preview that turns your answers into one illustrative cart scenario and shows how SGM structures a finding. It does not inspect your store, verify a defect, score the business, or estimate financial impact.

What is included in the paid Shopify Revenue Leak Audit?

SGM reviews the agreed public storefront and authorized merchant information, checks representative cart states, and delivers an evidence map, ranked action plan, starting measurements, and a recorded walkthrough. The written scope confirms the exact inclusions and exclusions.

What information or access is required?

No login is required for the first fit check. After the scope is accepted, SGM may request the public store URL, relevant theme and app context, discount, bundle, and shipping rules, read-only analytics or approved exports, recent change notes, and one person who can answer questions. Only the agreed minimum access should be provided.

How do the $1,500 price and $500 deposit work?

The audit fee is $1,500 USD. The $500 USD deposit is credited toward that fee; it is not an extra charge. The written scope and invoice confirm taxes, remaining-balance timing, cancellation terms, and any approved third-party costs before payment.

What does the client receive?

A documented evidence map, ranked action plan, starting-measurement brief, and recorded walkthrough that the client’s team or current agency can use. Optional implementation is scoped and priced separately.

When does the 72-hour target begin?

Only after the written scope is accepted, the required deposit is received, all agreed access and starting information are complete, and SGM confirms the start in writing. The written scope controls the schedule.

Are revenue, conversion, profit, or sales results guaranteed?

No. SGM provides a rigorous diagnostic, documented evidence, prioritization, and recommendations. Outcomes depend on client decisions, implementation, products, pricing, traffic, customer behaviour, platforms, competition, and other factors outside SGM’s control.

Who is this service for?

It is for Shopify merchants with a live store, meaningful customer activity, a decision-maker who can supply authorized information, and a team or partner able to act on prioritized recommendations. It is not for businesses seeking guaranteed results or formal legal, tax, security, or accessibility certification.

What if the audit finds nothing urgent?

You still receive what appears sound, what should be left alone, which questions lack evidence, and what to monitor next. Avoiding low-value work is a useful result.
